The Archipelago of Hainan (海南) constitutes the Southernmost Province of China. It's characterised by extraordinarily rich flora and fauna and an enjoyable weather with high temperatures almost the whole year. For these and other reasons Hainan is known as the 'Eastern Hawaii'. Come with us in this week's travel guide and find out all the wonders of this tropical paradise for an ideal tour to China.

The first and most notable distinctive trait of Hainan is its natural abundance. The island's tropical forest includes over 4000 kinds of plants and almost 600 different animal species, especially birds. There are also lots of protected natural reserves established to preserve endangered species and mountainous landscapes of exceptional beauty. Such variety ensures one-of-a-kind sightseeing excursion and experiences with rare wildlife scenery.

But this is not enough for a tropical paradise right? Climate, in fact, is also ideal. Residents and tourists can enjoy average temperatures around 20 degrees the whole year. With particularly hot summers and the coldest months, January and February, when the temperatures remain well over 10 degrees anyway (when they don't reach 20).

There are 10 major cities in Hainan and the most important two, Haikou (海口) and Sanya (三亚), are respectively located to the extreme north and the extreme south of the island. They also represent the two most important gateway cities for transportation and main tourist destinations. Tours going back and forth between Haikou and Sanya can take three different routes passing either from the centre of the island where is possible to admire its natural environment or coastal areas (eastern or western) where many interesting seaside towns and resorts are located. From mainland China Hong Kong, Guangzhou or Shanghai, it's easy to get to Hainan by ship or airplane in one of the two international airports again in Haikou or Sanya.

Among all the potential destinations, Sanya is very recognizable for its Guanyin of Nanshan, a 108-metre high three-faced bodhisattva statue. With its tropical climate, cultural attractions and top-notch facilities offering the best relax and leisure activities one can desire its definitely a must-go. Sanya is the destination in whole Hainan that has the largest choice of exclusive 5-star resorts, hotels, and bars in western style. It has seen an extremely fast development and its entertainment facilities strike a perfect mix of high-end Western hospitality and Hainan traditions.

Many other important cities such as Wanning or Qionghai are worth visiting though. Wherever you decide to go, you will find great resorts with the popular hot springs, wonderful natural scenery, silky beaches and plenty of occasions to enjoy your holiday.

Last but not least, other great reasons to travel to Hainan are its two distinct Visa-related policies that significantly facilitate tourists lives. First, there is the Group tour visa waiver, which allows people from Australia, Austria, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Ukraine and The United States to visit Hainan without a visa for up to 15 days if they are part of a group of at least 5 tourists organised by a travel agency approved by the National Tourism Administration of Hainan.

Secondly with the Visa on arrival policy instead, citizens of Australia, Austria, Britain, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and the United States arriving either at the Haikou or Sanya international airport and holding two passport photos, can pay RMB200 (around £24) to obtain a tourist visa for 15 days.

So, what are you waiting for? Come and visit one of the most beautiful and naturally richest tropical wonderlands on earth.
