We are excited to present this short itinerary to enjoy the very special spectacle of the Ice Lantern Festival. Rather than simply endure below-zero temperatures for half of the year, the residents of Harbin in the north eastern corner of China celebrate them with annual snow and ice festivals!
All the suggested prices on our website are based on a 2-people private group price. As the number of people in a group increases the price per person decreases.
This tour is escorted by local guides in Harbin.
This itinerary is subject to availability at the time of booking.
6 days visiting the fantastic Ice Lantern Festival in Harbin
Depart Heathrow aboard Air China’s non-stop flight to Beijing.
On arrival in Beijing, connect onto the onward flight to Harbin and stay 3 nights at the Days Hotel Xinkailai Harbin Hotel.
Harbin is one of the most unusual cities in China with a wealth of beautiful Russian and European buildings which we admire today along Central Street, and visit the Orthodox St Sophia’s Church, the largest in the Far East, now a museum exhibiting the many varied architectural styles of Harbin. This evening visit Snow World, where there are amazing exhibits of buildings and structures made entirely from ice and colourfully illuminated at night. A real winter wonderland! (BLD)
Today enjoy the Snow Festival on Sun Island, an amazing array of snow sculptures that have been traditional here since Manchu times, and every year, they seem to get more elaborate and spectacular. This evening we visit Zhaolin Park and the Ice Lantern Festival. These ice lanterns are magical, sculpted creations depicting mythical beasts, Chinese and European folk tales, waterfalls, temples and so on, and again, they are prettily illuminated at night. (BLD)
A free day for your own exploration. Optional return to the Ice Festival or perhaps visit the Siberian Tiger Park (please note that it is the custom here for live prey to be fed to the tigers). Evening flight to Beijing and overnight at the Shangri La Traders Hotel. (B)
Homeward Air China flight to Heathrow arriving later the same day. (B)
The Days Inn Hotel is an impressive building of classical European architecture located beside the beautiful Songhua River. The hotel has 259 comfortable and elegant rooms and suites, all fully equipped with broadband internet access, mini-bar, central air-conditioning, and satellite TV. There is a Chinese restaurant and a coffee shop.
A member of the renowned Shangri-La group, the 4-star Traders is a smart, contemporary hotel with 570 rooms measuring 28 sq m with complimentary broadband internet, safe, minibar, tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer and iron and ironing board.
