This fabulous tour offers some of China’s most well-known highlights in a compact time frame and at a great price. Starting in Beijing, we visit such iconic sights as the Great Wall, Forbidden City and Summer Palace. A 4-night cruise aboard one of the Victoria Cruises acclaimed vessels showcases the majestic beauty of the Yangtze River and its Gorges. In Xian we visit the remarkable sight of the Terracotta Army, then take a fantastic bullet train ride to Beijing.

Day 1
London - Beijing

Depart London Heathrow at around 20:25 on the Air China non-stop flight to Beijing

Day 2
Beijing 3 nights

Arrive Beijing and transfer to the 4-star Shangri-La Traders Hotel. Afternoon visit to the quaint hutong quarter by Lake Houhai. Enjoy a welcome dinner. (D)

Day 3
Beijing

Morning visit to the Ming-era Temple of Heaven. Drive north to the less-crowded and more scenic part of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Enjoy a traditional Peking Duck Dinner. (BLD)

Day 4
Beijing

Morning visit to Tiananmen Square & the Forbidden City, the complex of imperial palaces which were home to the Emperors for over 500 years. Grand halls and courtyards gradually give way to more intimate domestic quarters, giving a glimpse into the pampered isolation of the Emperors. Afternoon visit to the Summer Palace. Optional Beijing Opera performance. (BLD)

Day 5
Beijing - Yichang 4 nights

Morning at leisure. Fly to Yichang and transfer to the pier to join a 4 night cruise with Victoria Cruises (BD)

Day 6
Yangtze Cruise

Morning visit to the Three Gorges Dam at Sandouping, the largest in the world. Later sail through the Three Gorges Dam ship locks and later sail through Xiling Gorge, the longest (41 miles), and the deepest of the Three Gorges. Afternoon Tribe of the Three Gorges shore excursion (river conditions permitting), offering an interesting glimpse into life in the Xiling Gorge region. (BLD)

Day 7
Yangtze Cruise

Take an excursion through the Goddess Stream Small Gorges, which are narrower than the Three Gorges, but very impressive. Enter Wu Gorge, known for its quiet beauty, forest-covered mountains, and cliffs so sheer that the sun barely penetrates the precipices. Then sail through Qutang Gorge, the shortest (5 miles), narrowest (500 feet), and most dramatic gorge. Afternoon shore excursion to White Emperor City (river conditions permitting), an ancient city overlooking the western end of Qutang Gorge. (BLD)

Day 8
Yangtze Cruise

Shore excursion to Fengdu, visiting either the “Ghost City”, known for its statues of ghosts and devils on Mingshan Hill, or the new relocation village built for families who have moved as a result of the Yangtze’s rising waters brought about by the Three Gorges Dam. Afternoon shore excursion to Shibaozhai (river conditions permitting), with its impressive wooden pagoda, appropriately named “The Pearl of the Yangtze” (BLD)

Day 9
Chongqing - Xian 2 nights

Disembark and visit the Three Yangtze Gorges Museum and covered market. Fly to Xian for two nights at the Grand New World Hotel. Optional evening Tang- era music and dinner dance performance. (BL)

Day 10
Xian

Visit the world-renowned Terracotta Army – individually crafted life-sized figures, complete with chariots and horses. Afternoon visit to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Grand Mosque and Muslim quarter. (BLD)

Day 11
Xian -Beijing 1 night

Visit the City Walls before taking a bullet train to Beijing. Return to the Traders hotel for one night. (B)

Day 12
Beijing - London

Homeward Air China flight to London departing at around 1410 arriving later the same day. (B)

Just a 10-minute walk from Xian’s old city walls and West Gate, the 5-star Grand New World is a large, modern and comfortable hotel with rooms featuring IDD telephone, internet access, tea & coffee making facilities, cable TV, hairdryer and safe. There is also a beauty salon, massage, gym, indoor pool, sauna, business centre, restaurant and coffee shop. A good buffet breakfast is offered and both Chinese and western food is served in the hotel restaurants and coffee shop.

Victoria Cruises

Large fleet and expert crew
Victoria Cruises own and operate one of the Yangtze’s largest five-star fleet which are regularly refurbished and upgraded.  There are seven ships, the Victoria Anna, Grace, Jenna, Katarina, Lianna, Selina and Sophia, each managed by an experienced western cruise director supported by a team of knowledgeable river guides and a well-trained, multi-lingual crew. Guests may attend lectures on the Yangtze, Chinese history, culture and traditional medicine. Calligraphy, painting and Tai Chi lessons are also available.

Cuisine
Each Victoria cruise ship features a Dynasty Dining Room where buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are served whilst the captain’s farewell dinner will be a grander sit down banquet.  All vessels also boast an A La Carte Restaurant and both Western and Chinese cuisine is served on board. Superior cabin guests can book the A La Carte Restaurant at a supplement of USD 45 per meal, and enjoy exquisite dining in an intimate setting.

Facilities on board
The signature style of all Victoria’s ships is one of luxury and elegance with Asian accents. Tastefully-appointed cabins, striking atriums and immaculate public rooms and polished woods create a delightful ambience. The open sun deck has 360-degree views and cabins have wide panoramic windows. Surprisingly, all cabins also have a bathtub as well as shower unit, so you can enjoy a good soak after some exciting sightseeing. There is also a beauty salon, clinic, fitness room, mini-spa, reading room, gift shop and a spacious lounge for lectures and performances, as well as full air conditioning, internet access and BBC channels.
